Plans submitted for Aberdeen sports site
Proposals for a £23m regional sports centre in Aberdeen have been put forward to the city council’s planning committee for final approval.
The project has been backed by the University of Aberdeen in partnership with Aberdeen City Council and last month received a £7m grant from sportscotland.
The rest of the funding – £8m each – will be split by the council and the university.
The new 18,430sq m (198,000sq ft) centre would comprise an indoor football pitch, indoor and outdoor athletics facilities, a large sports centre, a café, crèche and offices.
The 5.25-hectare site is owned by the city council and existing facilities include the Chris Anderson stadium, an all-weather synthetic hockey pitch and a grass football pitch.
The new building would be located on the site of the existing spectator stand and hockey pitch. Details: www.aberdeencity.gov.ukMore News
