Public to comment on £37.5m leisure plans
Renfrewshire Council has scheduled a series of consultation events to enable local residents in Linwood, Johnstone and Paisley to comment on leisure investment plans.
Details of the local authority's proposed £37.5m investment in new and improved leisure facilities are to be put on show at the events, the first of which was held at Johnstone High School on 21 September. Under the council's plans, a £6.3m community sports hub will be set up at the school, including a 25m, four-lane swimming pool, a fitness gym, dance studios and a full-size synthetic pitch, as well as its existing hall.
Further consultation events are scheduled for Linwood Sports Centre's dance studio on 22 September and at Lagoon Leisure Centre, Paisley, on 25 October. Linwood Sports Centre will also boast a new sports hub, incorporating a 25m, six-lane swimming pool, teaching and fun pools, an eight-court sports hall, a fitness suite and a dance studio.
Meanwhile, Lagoon Leisure Centre is to benefit from £7.1m of funding for a sports hub with the provision of adult day care services. Plans will see the existing arena boast an enlarged gym and space to host sports such as skateboarding and mountain biking. A Renfrewshire Council spokesperson said: "As plans for this major investment become more detailed, people are getting to understand more about the scope of these proposals.
"These consultation evenings will give people the chance to view the plans and ask questions about the new facilities."
