Pubs could be allowed to stay open until 1am on 29 and 30 April in order to celebrate the Royal Wedding under new plans revealed by the government.
The Home Office has launched a two-week consultation into the proposals, which would entitle licensed premises to remain open for an additional two hours. Crime prevention minister James Brokenshire said: "The Royal Wedding is a time of national celebration and we want everyone to be able to participate.
"We recognise that people may want to extend their festivities to mark this important occasion." British Beer and Pub Association chief executive Brigid Simmonds said: "It is really good to see the government recognising that this is a brilliant opportunity for us all to get together in the pub, to celebrate a great national event."
The consultation ends on 26 January.
