Queen's Club members consider bidding for the site
The members of the Queen’s Club, which was recently put up for sale by the Lawn Tennis Association, are believed to be preparing a bid for the 119-year old sports club.
The club’s chair, Alexander Anton, is leading calls for the membership of the prestigious West London establishment to try and find the funds to buy Queen’s, as the LTA intends to auction the club.
Rival bidders are likely to include fitness club chains, such as Next Generation, but Anton has said that a commercial operator would damage the ethos and heritage of the club – something the LTA has made clear it wishes to avoid.
In a meeting last night (11 October), members were given a presentation to show how a bid might be tabled, as well as showing details of a comprehensive £5.5m refurbishment programme, including the addition of a swimming pool and spa.
