Rally event delivers £1.2m economic boost
Scotland's economy received a boost of more than £1.2m from hosting a stage of the Intercontinental Rally Challenge in 2009, according to new figures released by EventScotland.
The national events agency has revealed that the Rally of Scotland - held in Perth and Kinross and Stirling - also generated more than £2m in media exposure for the country. The event is scheduled to return to Scotland in October 2010 in the second of a three-year deal, secured by the EventScotland in partnership with Stirling Council and Perth and Kinross Council.
The agency commissioned Repucom to study the media coverage impact, while consultants EKOS compiled a report into the economic impact. Paul Bush, chief operating officer at EventScotland, said: "Last year's Rally of Scotland was a huge success and in 2010 we will build upon that success to ensure that maximum value is generated and that Scotland reaps further benefits from this world class event."
