Revenue up at Cineworld
Cinema operator Cineworld has reported a 3.7 per cent increase in revenue.
Announcing its half-year results, the company said it had seen a 4.1 per cent increase in box office sales, resulting in analyst EDI Nielsen calculating that the company now holds 24.3 per cent of the UK market - compared to 23.5 per cent in the previous six months.
A 3.2 per cent decline in retail sales was offset by a 31.4 per cent increase in 'other income', such as 3D glasses.
In June Cineworld announced a partnership with Arts Alliance Media to complete the rollout of digital projection facilities across its estate in the UK and Ireland.
The company expects to install the first tranche of new projectors in the second half of the year, with the rollout due for completion within three years, which will enable the group to capitalise further on the significant line up of 3D films.
