Royal appointment for Central YMCA chief
The chief executive of Central YMCA has been appointed a Deputy Lieutenant of Greater London.
The honour recognises Prescott's achievements at Central YMCA and her commitment towards improving the health and wellbeing of Londoners.
Prescott was appointed to the role by the Lord Lieutenant of Greater London, Sir David Brewer, whose represents Her Majesty the Queen in Greater London.
The Lord-Lieutenant selects Deputies (DLs) to represent him in each of the 32 London Boroughs. DLs are responsible for representing the Lord-Lieutenant at civic and other official functions and to promote voluntary, charitable and youth activities.
Prescott will be DL representative for the London borough of Lambeth.
"This is an extraordinary privilege and one which I certainly didn't see coming," she said.
"I look forward tremendously to the challenge and opportunities afforded by this appointment and will do my utmost to represent the Lord Lieutenant honourably in the borough of Lambeth."
Ian Green, Chief Executive of YMCA England, said: "I am delighted that Rosi Prescott has been appointed Deputy Lieutenant of Greater London - a distinct honour that not only recognises her considerable contributions to the social fabric of the Capital City but also recognises the importance of the YMCA in Greater London."
