Ryanair loses Strasbourg appeal but vows to continue fighting
Ryanair’s chief executive, Michael O’Leary, has spoken out regarding a decision by the French courts of appeal to uphold an earlier court ruling against the low fares airline.
O’Leary has vowed that Ryanair will continue fighting in the European Courts to resurrect its Strasbourg to London service, following its suspension last year due to an ongoing subsidies argument.
On 18 December, the French courts upheld the decision that Ryanair had received unfair aid from Strasbourg’s Chamber of Commerce to launch its services between Strasbourg and London.
The Ryanair service from Strasbourg to London will remain suspended but O’Leary has vowed to take the subsidies row to the European Court of Justice if necessary. He said: “Ryanair is committed to restoring its low fares Strasbourg to London service and will be appealing this decision, if necessary all the way through the French courts and to the European Court in Luxembourg itself.”
He continued: “We are confident that the European courts will, in time, recognise the benefits for consumers and the regions of low-cost air travel between Strasbourg and London.” Details: www. ryanair.com
