Good digestive health is reflected in good general health

Integrative medi-wellness facility SHA Wellness Clinic has unveiled a gut health programme dedicated to transforming digestion and enhancing overall health.

The new seven-day holistic retreat has been developed to reset and maintain optimal digestive function and is offered as an add-on to SHA’s signature Detox programme.

It kicks off with a consultation with a specialist in digestive health and inflammation to create a clear picture of guests’ current state of health. This is followed by a dental health assessment and blood and urine tests.

The programme continues with an analysis of guests’ microbial imbalance, an intravenous liver detox session, a workshop about emotional eating and six intestinal ozone therapy sessions.

Heading up the new programme is SHA’s digestive health specialist Dr Ámina Alani Ogea, who has over 15 years’ experience specialising in psychoneuroimmunology, neuroscience, sports medicine and nutrition.

More than a third of the world's population have symptoms involving poor digestive health and Ogea says numerous studies have shown the digestive system is closely interconnected with the rest of the body, especially the central nervous and immune systems.

“This means digestive health influences mood, mental health, autoimmune diseases, endocrine disorders and even skin conditions,” she explained.

“Therefore, good digestive health is reflected in good general health.”

During their stay, guests will take daily supplements and be treated to an educational healthy cooking class with SHA’s on-site chefs.

A comprehensive health plan addressing eating habits and lifestyle will also be provided for guests to continue positive gut health practices at home.

The experience is rounded off with a final check-up with the digestive health specialist to assess progress.

The Gut Health programme starts from €5,600 (US$6,714, £4,910) per person, but can be upgraded to 14 or 21 days for an additional cost.

SHA’s new offering is aimed at those suffering from digestive disorders or diseases in general, chronic diseases, autoimmune diseases, allergies and mood disorders.
