Time Out has unveiled its shortlist of the 50 top restaurants and bars in London ahead of the judging for its 2006 Eating and Drinking Awards.

Now in their seventeenth year, the awards are split into 10 categories, which include, for the first time, Best Steak Restaurant, Best Wine Bar and Best Patisserie.

A spokesperson for Time Out said the inclusion of the new categories “reflects the marked changes in both drinking and dining trends within the capital as well as demonstrating Londoners’ increasing demand for gourmet specialist operations, where the product really is the best of its kind.”

The nominees will be printed in Time Out from 23 August for two issues enabling readers to vote for their favourite establishments. The judges, meanwhile, will visit each site anonymously before choosing the winners.

The awards, sponsored by Leffe beer will be presented at Roast restaurant in Borough Market on 18 September.
