The British Racing Drivers’ Club (BRDC), which owns Silverstone race track, has turned to the Formula One (F1) racing teams and drivers in an attempt to save the 2005 British Grand Prix.

BRDC president Jackie Stewart said: “We will talk to teams, manufacturers and sponsors and hope we will gain support for the British Grand Prix at the F1 team meeting in Sao Paulo with Bernie Ecclestone on 22 October.”

Earlier in the week, Ecclestone said the decision to axe the 2005 British Grand Prix was “final” after talks between the two parties “failed to reach an agreement on the length of the commitment or the financial terms”.

The BRDC now hopes to put pressure on Ecclestone by rallying teams and drivers to demand the inclusion of Silverstone on the 2005 race calendar.
