Sir John Major quits MCC committee
Sir John Major has stepped down from the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) committee as a result of "fundamental disagreements" concerning the future transformation of Lord's.
Earlier this month, the MCC revealed it had abandoned a major £400m redevelopment of the iconic London cricket ground in favour of a "stand-by-stand" renovation.
The revised plans will now only include the club's existing freehold land and will result in a phased project to start with rebuilding the Tavern and Allen stands at the Pavilion End.
The MCC said it accepted Sir John's resignation due to "fundamental disagreements over the direction of policy on the Vision for Lord's; the manner in which decisions have been reached, and their wider implications for the club."
Sir John said: "My decision to resign from the Committee of the world's pre-eminent Cricket Club has been reached with very great sadness."
