Stadium and greens in Rotherham to remain open

Rotherham Stadium and several bowling greens are set to stay open following a council rethink.

The Herringthorpe Stadium and four bowling greens across the borough will remain open after the council had consultations with users and other interested people to find a solution to avoid closure.

The five clubs - Valley Park, Barkers Park, Greasbrough Park and Maltby Coronation Park will continue to run after the clubs indicated a willingness to continue to maintain their own greens.

The stadium will also remain open - at peak times of demand for a 12 month period on a trial basis, after a new way of operating was identified following a funding shortage of £60,000.

Councillor Amy Rushforth commented, stating: "These are very difficult times for the Council, but this shows what can be achieved when people rise to the challenges presented by budget reductions.
