Stretford in line for new sports facilities
Trafford Council has backed plans for the creation of new sports facilities at Stretford High School and Gorse Hill Park, which are expected to be completed by summer 2012.
A new dual-use building is to be constructed at the school, which will boast four badminton courts; a dance studio; a gym; and a community room and changing areas.
Meanwhile, an all weather pitch and a grass pitch will be developed in an area of Gorse Hill Park. The floodlit all weather pitch will be suitable for football, rugby and hockey.
Work is expected to begin on both the new building and the new pitches in early November, with access to some parts of the park to be restricted during the construction phase.
Stretford High School headteacher James Haseldine said: "Our focus now is working hard with all stakeholders to make sure that, when completed, this facility lives up to expectations."
