Super stadium planned for Nottingham
Nottingham Forest Football Club has reportedly drawn up plans to build a new £100m super stadium in time for the 2018 World Cup.
According to the Nottingham Evening Post, it forms part of a proposals to create a massive sports quarter at Holme Pierrepont, which is already home to the National Watersports Centre. Plans for the project also include a 10,000-seat community stadium for rugby and athletics, a golf course, and a nature reserve, as well as a health club and five-star hotel.
The Football Association (FA) told club officials at the start of September that Nottingham would be one of 12 venues included in a bid to bring the World Cup to England in 2018, provided the city could provide a world-class stadium. However, the newspaper also reports that the plans would have to be delivered to the FA by 2010 if the city is to be included in the World Cup bid.
Previous plans for a new stadium put forward by Nottingham Forest for a site in Clifton were met with fierce opposition.
