Sustainable tourism group backs aviation emissions framework
The Tour Operators' Initiative for Sustainable Tourism Development (TOI) has supported a multi-national framework for the reduction of carbon emissions from air travel.
TOI members - including hotel group Accor and operator TUI Travel - represent more than 50 million leisure travellers a year and believes it can play an integral role in green growth.
"Travel and tourism together, in which air transport plays a crucial role, may not only be sustainable but actually a primary driver of green growth," said TOI chair Michel Lemay.
"It is also often a primary driver behind environmental, landscape and heritage protection, and it helps foster dialogue and exchanges between cultures."
