More than 4,000 swimmers took to the water during the open weekend at the newly-refurbished Saltdean Lido in Brighton, East Sussex.

The lido was refurbished after a campaign by Saltdean Lido Community Interest Company (CIC), which appointed Fusion Lifestyle as its operating partner.

The two-phased project involves reopening the pool, with the next part renovating the building.

Anthony Cawley, Fusion Lifestyle director of operations, said: “We are delighted to be the operational partner at Saltdean Lido.

“The atmosphere there was incredible this weekend and it’s wonderful to see this historic site up and running. We are committed to providing top quality, affordable sport and leisure facilities to local communities and breathing new life into lidos like this is one is something we are passionate about.”

The leisure operator has six other lidos in its portfolio and is actively searching for disused pools across the UK. Its next project is to bring Broomhill Lido in Ipswich back into use.
