The Gym Group has announced it will expand its partnership pilot with Wellhub ahead of the January rush and will finish the year with seven new launches.

The Wellhub pilot was first launched August, when 190 gyms were made available to the corporate wellness provider. Due to positive initial results, The Gym Group has added 54 new locations ahead of the new year fitness demand, giving Wellhub access to a total of 244 sites.

Tina Koehler, chief commercial officer for The Gym Group, said: “We're encouraged by the results of the first phase of this pilot with Wellhub, as we test this exciting new channel to deliver on our growth plans. Employees from major brands on Wellhub’s platform are already benefitting from access to our high-quality gyms around the country, and we look forward to expanding this offer to more gyms in our estate.”

Corporate wellness is being driven by employers’ increasing recognition of wellbeing’s health and productivity benefits – research shows that 87 per cent of employers say they have a responsibility to support employees’ physical and mental health.

Demand is particularly strong among younger generations of workers, with The Gym Group’s 2025 Gen Z Fitness Pulse Report finding 82 per cent of Gen Z say integrating exercise into their working day boosts productivity and energy levels.

Wellhub's Eamon Lloyd says this is a synergistic partnership: “Sixty per cent of our members did not have a gym membership before joining Wellhub, which means we are helping partners like The Gym Group reach people who are new to fitness. With The Gym Group’s nationwide footprint and inclusive offer, together we’re making it easier for everyone, from first-time gym-goers to long-term fitness enthusiasts, to do wellness their way.”

With the launch of seven new gyms in December, The Gym Group will meet its target of 16 launches in 2026, all funded from cashflow. The openings include four locations in London (White City, Camberwell, Old Kent Road and Loughborough Junction), as well as three further gyms in Midsomer Norton, Manchester and Bradford, bringing the total estate to 260 sites.

The new gyms feature the gym interior design upgrades that began this year aimed at Gen Z – a modern design aesthetic and zoned areas.

Hamish Latchem, chief property officer for The Gym Group, said: “Accessible fitness is now part of the social infrastructure of communities, driving dependable footfall and supporting the health of our towns and cities.

“With a strong pipeline of quality sites and a team focused on disciplined site selection, we remain committed to our Next Chapter plan, accelerating quality new sites and delivering sustainable growth.

“As we look to 2026 and beyond, our focus remains on expansion that creates lasting value for both our members and the properties we operate within. With the refreshed look and feel of our gyms, we are ensuring that we deliver that great value proposition to our members as well as meeting the continued demand of high value, low cost gyms.”
