The food's natural, why not the packaging?
Huhtamaki has launched a new environmentally friendly packaging range created from naturally grown maize.
The clear plastic containers are claimed to be fully compostable within 60 days of disposal and are made from NatureWorks PLA. This is a material that uses the latest technology to turn the maize into lactic acid, which can later be shaped into a variety of packaging and foodservice items.
The NatureWorks PLA products currently include disposable clear tumblers and salad containers and are part of Huhtamaki's new BioWare range.
Also under the BioWare label are Chinet moulded fibre products. Like Natureworks PLA, Chinet is 100 per cent biodegradable and compostable and made out of paper cup cuttings from Huhtamaki's own production line.
To complete the natural line-up, the company can also provide wooden cutlery to order.
