Titanic exhibit launches at Mystic Aquarium
A new multi-million dollar installation marking the 100th anniversary of Titanic's ill-fated voyage in 1912 has opened at Mystic Aquarium in Connecticut, US.
Titanic-12,450 Feet Below has launched at the attraction's Ocean Exploration Center Exhibit Hall and offers visitors the chance to "journey to the new depths of discovery".
Dr Robert Ballard, the president of Sea Research Foundation's Institute for Exploration and who led a 1985 expedition to Titanic, has been involved in the exhibit's conception.
Tim Delaney, head of Tim J Delaney Design and a former senior Walt Disney imagineering designer, also worked on the exhibit. It is supported by United Technologies Corporation.
The exhibit incorporates a glowing iceberg cold to the touch and a bi-level adventure area that is inspired by the liner's engine room, as well as a number of hands-on experiences.
Sea Research Foundation president and CEO Dr Stephen M Coan said the new exhibit was the result of a "unique and important collaboration".
"[It] will give people a chance to experience Titanic through the eyes of someone recognised as one of the world's greatest explorers and the imagination of a renowned exhibit designer."
