Tredegar House set for Ryder Cup upgrade
Plans to upgrade car parking facilities at Tredegar House, which will be used as a park and ride location during the 2010 Ryder Cup, have been given the green light by Newport City Council (NCC).
The attraction's car park will be extended and resurfaced as part of the Welsh Assembly Government-funded scheme, while a new coach area will also be created to ensure the historic house benefits from improvements being made in the city ahead of next year's golf tournament. NCC leader Matthew Evans said: "The new car park at Tredegar House will be a great asset for one of our most high profile and popular tourist attractions and is a prime example of how hosting the Ryder Cup in Newport will leave a permanent and positive legacy in our city.
"It is the latest in a range of infrastructure projects in our city ahead of the Ryder Cup next year. Projects such as the works at Tredegar House, improvements to the Coldra and the refurbishment of the Transporter Bridge will leave a lasting legacy for Newport residents and businesses that will have benefits way beyond 2010."
