Trust invests in rehabilitation gym
Health care provider Papworth Trust has created a new gym at its Vocational Rehabilitation Department in Papworth Everard, Cambridgeshire.
The £40,000, 156sq m (1,700sq ft) fitness suite has been created by converting two unused office spaces and includes 14 exercise stations supplied by Cybex, the majority which has been credited at Stage 2 by the Inclusive Fitness Initiative (IFI).
Other facilities include a physiotherapy room which offers massages, reflexology and traditional physiotherapy.
The Vocational Rehabilitation Department was originally funded by the government via the Department of Work & Pensions but is now funded by insurance claims.
The process is part of the Rehabilitation Code, which ensures access to rehabilitation services without affecting the outcome of the insurance claim for the injured party.
The programme has been running for 15 years and is designed to support people who acquired their disability as a result of an accident and to aid them to become ready to work again.
Amy Bringes, business development manager for Papworth, said: "Exercise is a great way to feel better and to build confidence, so it is a vital part of the comprehensive service that we offer here.
"The gym has been designed to look like an ordinary gym. This offers our clients the confidence to exercise in a safe environment fully supervised but one that is the same as that they will use when they leave us."
