Wandsworth tennis awarded beacon status
Wandsworth Common Tennis and Bowls Centre, south London, has been awarded beacon status by the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) and the Tennis Foundation.
All Star Coaching manages the facility's six tennis courts on behalf of Wandsworth Council and offers access to free tennis and a range of affordable community programmes. Sarah McDermott, the council's cabinet member for environment and culture, said: "The borough has recently adopted a tennis strategy for the next five years and this achievement lays down a gauntlet for the rest of the borough's tennis facilities to work towards similar aims and ambitions."
Wandsworth Common Tennis and Bowls Centre is one of 60 sites across the UK to be awarded the status.
