Warmer weather helps drive UK pub/restaurant sales increase during May
The latest Coffer Peach Tracker has reported a 2.6 per cent growth in collective like-for-like sales across a number of leading UK pub and restaurant groups during May.
Total sales - including new openings - were up by 6.5 per cent on the same period in 2011, with pubs benefiting most as warmer weather last month boosting trading.
Last month, the tracker reported a 2 per cent decline in like-for-like sales during April as wet and cold weather conditions impacted on the performance of the 24 operators involved.
Peter Martin of the Peach Factory said: "The market remains volatile, like the weather, with see-sawing performances. April was down, although March was up, but that followed a very shaky start to 2012 in January and February."
• Australian-themed bar chain Walkabout has seen sales increase across all 31 UK locations by more than 40 per cent since the start of this summer's Euro 2012 football tournament.
Revenues for days that England has played are up 134 per cent, when compared with last year. Newly-refurbished sites, such as Watford and Liverpool, have reported some of the group's largest increases.
