Water safety congress aims to prevent drownings
The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) is holding its second national water safety congress in Septmeber to comabt a spate of high profile drownings.
'The have been a string of highly-publicised deaths on school trips, at activity centres and in swimming pools,' said Peter Cornall, RoSPA water safety manager.
'Many water site operators are still confused about their responsibilities and do not even carry out risk assessments. Our conference will explore best practice in management and site operation, along with how water safety will be regulated in future.'
Speakers at the water safety congress will include experts on water recreation management, water sports, spas and pools, the EU Bathing Directive and water accident claims.
Workshops will cover issues such as swimming pool safety and planning for emergencies.
'Water safety professionals dealing with inland and coastal sites and swimming pools can exchange ideas and play their part in preventing drownings,' said Cornall.
