The Wellness Tourism Association’s (WTA) board of directors has announced its lawyers have dissolved the organisation due to financial issues.

The organisation was first incorporated as a not-for-profit in the US in January 2018 as a global network of operators and practitioners in the wellness tourism industry.

Co-founder and founding president of the WTA, Anne Dimon, hopes to re-launch the organisation, this time as a for-profit venture. She has asked for interested parties to contact her to learn more about how they can help.

The WTA led a number of initiatives that have contributed to a series of new standards, definitions for a glossary of industry language and consumer surveys to identify trends and market demands.

Using its definitions for different market segments, Antigua and Barbuda was the first location, globally, to earn the “Wellness Destination” designation from the WTA last year – having met all the requirements.

It also partnered with The Travel Institute to launch the first Wellness Travel Specialist Course for travel advisors to teach entrants to the market about the industry. These participants took an exam and received certification to show they could implement sales, business and branding strategies in the market.
