The Welsh Assembly Government has called for Wales-based businesses to take advantage of new London 2012 opportunities worth more than £700m.

A schedule of future contracts yet to be awarded is to be published by the London 2012 Organising Committee (LOCOG) on its CompeteFor website. Contracts include catering and sporting equipment; office furniture; and licensing opportunities that the Welsh Assembly wants firms to capitalise on.

The Welsh Assembly is planning to hold two events in January in order to encourage more Wales-based businesses to take advantage of remaining opportunities and available support. Welsh minister for the economy and transport Ieuan Wyn Jones said: "In light of the cuts recently announced in the Comprehensive Spending Review, and the subsequent squeeze on public sector procurement spend, it is of particular importance that Welsh companies pursue these opportunities.

"The Assembly Government is part funding the CompeteFor website to ensure Welsh companies can register their details, get alerts about new tendering opportunities and also express an interest in tendering." Welsh companies have already secured Olympic contracts worth more than £37m.
