Work starts on Ynysawdre pool
Construction work has begun on a new swimming pool in Ynysawdre, Bridgend in Wales.
The main contractors, Wilmott Dixon Turner, have moved on site, with completion due early in 2008.
The £5m facility will feature a 25m swimming pool and learning pool, with changing village and a fitness suite with dedicated dance studio.
The facility has been funded by a variety of partners, including the Big Lottery Fund, which has invested £500,000 and the Sports Council for Wales, which is providing £750,000.
Councillor Peter Foley of Bridgend Borough Council, said: "I am delighted that construction has begun on this exciting project which when complete will be of enormous benefit to the whole county borough.
“Everyone should have the opportunity to swim and this development means that we can offer extensive swimming programmes including galas, training for schools and clubs and a comprehensive range of health and fitness facilities and programmes."
The scheme has been designed by architects Limbrick, who were responsible for the Wales National Pool, Swansea.
