Work to begin on Stevenage park revamp
Stevenage Borough Council (SBC) has confirmed that work is due to start on a major multi-million pound overhaul of the Town Centre Gardens later this month.
The scheme, which has received a £1.77m grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund, will see a new wooden embankment surrounding the pond and repairs to the Lady and Doves statue. New marginal planting at the northern end of the pond; anchored floating islands to provide nesting areas for waterfowl; and a bridge to improve access are also proposed.
SBC deputy leader John Gardner said: "We are all very keen to see the Gardens restored to their former glory. This is a very important project which I am sure will benefit everyone who lives or works in Stevenage." Work is due to be completed in April 2011.
