£10m earmarked for new Bath leisure centre
Bath and North East Somerset Council (BANES) has announced that it has committed £10m towards the development of a new leisure centre in Bath.
The council anticipates the need for new facilities in light of Bath Rugby's bid to redevelop the Recreation Ground, which will lead to the demolition of the existing leisure centre. Heads of Terms discussions for commercial arrangements between BANES and the rugby club are at a "well advanced" stage, which has included the council's funding commitment.
A BANES spokesperson said: "The council has indicated its willingness to fund up to £10m towards the provision of a new leisure centre for local residents as part of these negotiations. "Appropriate provision in the capital programme is therefore being made for the proposed investment."
