£1.2m cash injection for Dudley leisure centres
Leisure centres in Dudley will receive a £1.2m cash boost to help improve facilities and lift visitor numbers.
The council is currently reviewing plans for investment in its facilities at Crystal Leisure Centre, Dudley Leisure Centre and Halesowen Leisure Centre.
The cash injection is largely aimed at bringing customers back, as visitors to the council-owned centres in the town have begun to favour privately owned clubs such as Fitness First.
After the council installed new equipment at its Halesowen site last year, membership jumped from 200 to 700 people in 12 months and is hoping that the proposed works at all three centres will have a similar effect.
Charles Fraser Macnamara, the council’s cabinet member for leisure and culture, said: “This £1.2m investment will help us improve facilities at our Dudley, Halesowen and Crystal sites for the benefit of all users.
“The impact of the impressive improvements already made at Halesowen has been excellent and we hope these new works will be equally as successful.”
