A new £24m community sports hub in Linwood - part of Renfrewshire Council's £103m investment in local facilities - remains on course to open to the public in spring 2013.

Linwood Community Sports Hub - designed by Cre8 Architecture - will house three pool areas comprising a 25m, six-lane competition pool; a 15m learner pool; and a leisure pool offering a range of features.

A sports hall; squash courts; a fitness suite; and dance studios will also form part of the complex, as well as five-a-side pitches and an improved athletics track on the exterior. It is being built by BAM Construction.

Barr + Wray has recently begun work on installing the filtration systems for the pools, with the Glasgow-based group expecting to remain on site until early next year.

In addition to its sporting facilities, Linwood Community Sports Hub will also feature an adult day care centre. Once open, three existing facilities will be demolished.

Meanwhile, Barr + Wray has confirmed it has secured a £290,000 contract to refurbish the pool filtration system at another Renfrewshire facility , which is receiving a revamp.

The leisure centre at Lagoon Leisure Centre in Paisley is due to open later this summer as part of an £8m scheme, which has also included the addition of a new fitness suite.

Barr + Wray will be updating the filtration system it originally installed in order to reduce costs and improve water quality. The firm is also refurbishing the wave machine.

Lorne Kennedy, the company's European pools and spas sales director, said: "Pool technology has taken great strides in the 25 years since Lagoon Leisure Centre first opened.

"Paisley is right on our doorstep and we are confident our work behind the scenes will make a huge difference to the effective operation of the new pool."
