£500,000 funding for John Peel Centre
The John Peel Centre for Creative Arts (JPCCA) in Stowmarket, Suffolk, has been awarded £500,000 of funding by Biffa towards the next stage of its redevelopment proposals.
Named after late broadcaster John Peel, the facility was the only cultural venue to be handed a Biffa Flagship Project grant and is now seeking to secure additional match-funding.
The latest award will go towards a third phase of work to transform the building into a fully-operational arts and events venue, which is scheduled to commence in May 2012.
Work will include new lighting and sound systems; a box office; a mezzanine level with bar and café; and the installation of sprung flooring and environmentally-friendly measures.
JPCCA director Andrew Stringer said: " We will create a high quality arts-based venue in the heart of Suffolk, which is fantastic for the county - and the country.
"We're bringing an unused and decaying historic building back into a sustainable use and creating an inspirational environment to foster the creative energy of local people and enable wider enjoyment of the arts."
