£500k Harborough leisure plans 'put on hold'
Doubts have been cast over plans for a £500,000 upgrade of facilities at a leisure centre in Market Harborough, Leicestershire, as a result of public spending cuts.
According to the Harborough Mail, Harborough District Council (HDC) has been forced to delay plans to revamp Harborough Leisure Centre in order to implement cost-cutting measures. Proposals included a complete overhaul of the pool's changing rooms and improvements to the toddlers' Tiger Pool. Meanwhile, the council has also ended free swimming for under-16s and over-65s.
Phil Jarvis, chair of Harborough District Leisure Trust, told the newspaper: "We fully appreciate the difficult cuts the new government has had to make in the current economic climate."
