The founding director of Queensland Academy of Sport in Australia and manager of the Elite Sports Programme at the Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra, Shakespear was appointed for her track record in elite sport as well as her experience as coach, competitor and teacher. Shakspear was also awarded the Order of Australia Medal in 1992 for services to sport.
