The STA CERTIFICATE qualification enables an individual to be a fully qualified swimming teacher. Stages 5-10 are covered looking at Competitive/ Fitness Swimming and Survive & Save in Stages 8-10. ASA Level 1 Swimming Assistant (Teaching) Qualification

The ASA Level 1 Swimming Assistant Qualification develops your knowledge, skills and abilities as a Swimming Assistant.

It will enable you to actively support a qualified Swimming Teacher in the delivery of a pre-prepared session.

Level: Beginner
Duration: 4 days
Training Format: Face to Face and Blended Learning

Blended Learning is a more flexible approach where you can complete theory elements of the course online through a virtual pool environment and interactive videos prior to the practical workshops.

Who is the course designed for?

Anyone who is interested in starting a career in teaching swimming or wants to assist a Swimming Teacher.

Course content

The ASA Level 1 Swimming Assistant Qualification course is delivered through a mixture of classroom activities, e-learning exercises and practical poolside-based learning sessions. It covers the core knowledge that is required for this level including:

- Preparation of teaching activities
- Delivery of prepared activities within a session
- Roles and responsibilities within a learn to swim programme
- Health & Safety in the aquatic environment

Eligibility

You must be at least 16 years of age. There are no formal entry requirements for this qualification and you do not need any previous experience of teaching.

Job Prospects

Discovery Learning is a leading fitness industry training body providing various courses recognised by all UK and international award bodies.

All of our fitness industry training courses are CIMSPA recognised and qualifying with Discovery Learning means that upon course completion you will receive a YMCA Awards Level 3 Certificate in Personal Training (Skills Active accredited).

After you successfully qualify as a personal trainer, you will also be able to register with the Register of Exercise Professionals (REPs) and you can start working as a PT in the UK or internationally.

Who is this course for?

The Level 3 Certificate in Personal Training is aimed at pre-qualified Level 2 fitness instructors who want to start working with their own client base.

Our Level 2 and Level 3 course packages are designed for those wanting to work within the fitness industry and want to get both qualifications in one go.

What do I need to enrol?

In order for someone to be able to enrol for our Level 3 Personal Trainer Certificate, they would need an accredited Level 2 Fitness Instructor certification.

We can also provide these courses for those who are yet to qualify as a Level 2 Fitness Instructor or you can choose to study for these qualifications combined as part of our comprehensive and hands-on course package.

Previous academic qualifications are not necessary but we do require a good command of English (reading and writing), good communication skills and a fairly reasonable level of physical fitness.

Last but definitely not least, we do want our students to be dedicated and willing to learn and develop!

Payment options

If you are not able to pay the whole sum all at once, you can choose to pay in 12 monthly instalments with a 0% interest. We would just need an initial 10% deposit of the total course cost.

UK AND INTERNATIONALLY RECOGNISED GYM INSTRUCTOR COURSE

What qualifications will I receive?

Once you complete your gym instructor course, you will be awarded a Level 2 Certificate in Fitness Instructing – Gym Based Exercises.

It is a YMCA Awards qualification, accredited by Skills Active -recognised in all UK as well as internationally.

You will also be able to register with REPs at Level 2 and hence, gain 20 REPs points.

The Level 2 Gym Instructor Course is aimed at those who want to start their career in the fitness industry and by doing so, their first steps after gaining their qualification will be getting acquainted with the gym floor and helping new members become familiar with all the exercise equipment.

The newly qualified gym instructors would also design and set new gym programmes for clients as well as making sure that gym goers are safe using the gym machines at all times.

The Gym Instructor Course is definitely a first stepping stone and most newly qualified students go on to further development and study further to become personal trainers.

Because this qualification is aimed at those just starting out, previous fitness qualifications are not necessary, but we do require a good command of English (written and spoken), good communication skills and last but not least, determination.

Course description:
National Pool Plant Operator Certificate

The National Pool Plant Operator Certificate is our primary course. It covers everything you need to effectively maintain a swimming pool, spa or water feature.

This course is approved by the Pool Water Treatment Advisory Group (PWTAG). This means that our training is of the highest standard, meeting PWTAG guidelines which are widely viewed as best practice.

You will learn about circulation, filtration, disinfection, pH correction and heating of pool water. You will also learn how to maintain water which is safe and pleasant to swim in, how to correctly test pool water and understand how to restore it to ideal conditions.

The National Pool Plant Operator Certificate lasts for three years.

Level: Intermediate – although no prior certificate is needed to attend the course, beginners are advised to complete the National Pool Plant Foundation Certificate first
Duration: 3 days
Training Format: Face to Face
Assessment: Multiple choice test and a work based assignment
Certification: The National Pool Plant Operators Certificate. This is awarded by IQL UK – the body for The Royal Life Saving Society – for three years

Who is the course designed for?

The course is aimed at anyone involved in and responsible for the day to day operation of pool plant. This includes local authority employees, schools and private pool owners. Course content

- Maintaining swimming pool hygiene
- Controlling chlorine and chemical levels
- Managing water supplies and water treatment
- Testing for pollution and parasite infection
- Maintaining pipes, circulation and filtration
- Promoting health and safety
- Disinfecting water
- Balancing pH and alkalinity
- Diagnosing and testing water
- Making savings on heating, ventilation and energy

The STA AWARD qualification is an entry-level course that looks at the fundamentals of swim teaching focusing on being able to deliver to Stages 1-4 (Non-Swimmers, Beginner & Improvers). Individuals will learn how to teach Front Crawl, Backstroke, Breaststroke & Fly leg kick as well as the Essential Swimming Skills. - Delivery of prepared activities within a session
- Monitoring and evaluating a series of swimming lessons
- Roles and responsibilities within a learn to swim programme
- Health & Safety in the aquatic environment
