£7m Dollan Aqua Centre revamp completed
East Kilbride's Dollan Aqua Centre has reopened to the public following the completion of a £7m refurbishment of the Grade A-listed venue, which was carried out by Clark Contracts.
The renovation of the complex - originally designed by Alexander Buchanan Campbell and first opened in 1968 - included structural works and new floor, wall and ceiling finishes. Among the facilities at Dollan Aqua Centre is one of Scotland's five 50m competition pools and a health suite comprising a sauna, a steamroom, a sanarium and a spa bath.
A gym equipped with Life Fitness cardiovascular machines and HUR resistance equipment; a dance studio; water flumes; a crèche; and a coffee shop are also on offer at the complex. Barr + Wray was appointed to undertake a £300,000 filter contract as part of the renovation, which included a revamp of the main pool's three filter vessels and fabrication of a fourth.
Alister MacDonald, managing director of Barr + Wray, said: "The work we have carried out to modernise and improve efficiency at Dollan Aqua Centre will generate long-term public savings." South Lanarkshire Leisure and Culture operates the venue on behalf of South Lanarkshire Council.
