£15m Mar Hall hotel opens
The 53-bedroom, Mar Hall luxury hotel in Scotland will open to the public at the end of June.
A £15m refurbishment was needed to transform the hotel site, which was originally designed and built by architect, Sir Robert Smirk, in 1840 and has been described by operations director Jeanette Montgomery as “the perfect combination of Scottish fine architecture, elegance and first-class service”.
Mar Hall is situated on a 240-acre estate at Bishopton, a short drive away from Glasgow International Airport and has stunning views over both the River Clyde and the Kilpatrick Hills.
Before the refurbishment, the ‘A’ listed building housed the former Erskine Hospital administrative headquarters.
Part of Small Luxury Hotels of the World, the hotel also boasts a Grand Hall, several function suites, an Aveda Spa and work has also begun on an 18-hole golf course designed by Dave Thomas Jr due to open at the end of 2005.
There is a specially designed, permanent ‘super marquee’ in the grounds, with the capacity to hold 250 guests.
The hotel will also have a fine dining gourmet restaurant called The Cristal.
