£230m Barry waterfront plans approved
The consortium behind proposals for a £230m mixed-use regeneration of the waterfront in Barry, South Wales, has received full approval from the Vale of Glamorgan Council.
Persimmon Homes, Taylor Wimpey and BDW Trading (Barratt South Wales) are leading The Quays scheme, which will incorporate cafés, restaurants, a hotel and retail units.
A Section 106 agreement has now been reached between the consortium and local authority planning officers to enable the 43-hectare (106.3-acre) development to move forward.
Consortium spokesperson Richard Keogh said: "This is a massive investment in Barry, with wide-ranging benefits for the town and its surrounding areas.
"Not only will the scheme help regenerate derelict land, but it will also create jobs, drive economic growth and hopefully encourage further investment in the area."
