Free cross-border guided walks
Northumberland National Park has introduced a summer-long series of free guided walks, starting 2 May, as part of its Cheviot Hills Heritage Project to discover more about the cross-border area.
The two-year project is being run out of the Cheviot Centre in Wooler and works across the English-Scottish border with the intention of exploring the natural and cultural heritage of the area. The programme kicks off with a three-mile, family-friendly tour over West Hill and St Gregory's and around the village of Kirknewton near Wooler. There are several community celebratory events lined up to investigate the cultural heritage of the area, along with opportunities to record nature observations and take part in archaeology training sessions.
Project partners include Heritage Lottery Fund, Scottish Borders Council, Northumberland National Park Authority, Scottish Natural Heritage, Berwick Borough Council, Alnwick District Council and Northumberland County Council.
