2006 Tour of Britain to finish in London
The route for the 2006 Tour of Britain cycling road race has been confirmed, with a finish on The Mall, outside Buckingham Palace.
The race will start in Scotland on Tuesday August 29, and continue in the North West, Yorkshire, West Midlands, South East and London, over six stages.
A field of 96 riders is expected, from many of the world's top professional teams, with organisers hoping for a strong British presence, including Olympic gold medallist, Bradley Wiggins.
The fifth stage will end in Canterbury – the finish city of the first stage of the 2007 Tour de France. London will feature the opening Prologue time trial, and the start of the first stage of Le Tour 2007.
The final stage of the 2006 Tour of Britain will be 80km – a 20-lap circuit, taking in Tower Bridge, St Paul's Cathedral, Hyde Park, and Marble Arch.
