2006 record year for leisure property investment
More than £1.2bn was invested in commercial leisure schemes last year (excluding the sales of single properties), the industry’s highest level of turnover to date, according to property advisor Savills.
The food and beverage sectors have improved significantly over the last year with its rents rising sharply throughout.
Johnny Holmes, director at Savills, said: “2006 was a record year for leisure investment not just in terms of rental growth, but also investment yields.
“Due to its need for intensive asset management, the leisure property industry principally appeals to certain types of investor. I would expect to see increased indirect investment in the sector via some of the specialist funds that are experienced in owning and operating leisure schemes.”
