2012 chiefs secure Greenwich Park approval
Plans for the temporary use of Greenwich Park to host equestrian and modern pentathlon events during the London 2012 Olympics have been given the green light.
The National Maritime Museum, the Old Royal Naval College and Blackheath Circus Field will also be used during the Games under proposals approved by Greenwich Council on 23 March. Olympic organisers have pledged to restore the sites to their former use and conditions, with a Site Reinstatement Plan set to be agreed with the council in consultation with the Royal Parks.
Sebastian Coe, chair of the London 2012 Organising Committee for the Olympic and Paralympic Games, said: "The message is loud and clear. This great Park is on loan to the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games and the people of the world. "We must return it to the residents of Greenwich, to Londoners and visitors from the UK and around the world in the same condition, or better, than it was loaned to us."
