2012 organisers appoint core sailing team
The London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games (LOCOG) has appointed its four-person core sailing team to deliver events due to be held at Weymouth and Portland.
Sailing manager Rob Andrews will head up the new team and has overall responsibility for the 2012 sailing events, having formed part of the British coaching team at the 2004 Games. The remaining members are Rod Carr (field of play manager), Pete Allam (sailing technical operations manager) and Tessa Bartlett (sailing services manager), each with experience within the sport.
As part of preparations, the sailing team will be seconded to the Royal Yachting Association this month to help stage the Sail for Gold Regatta, while also observing the IFDS Paralympic World Championship next year. Andrews said: "This is the strongest team that I could have hoped to recruit, and the team has a wide range of experience covering many different working areas such as running competitions, coaching, team management, National Olympic, National Paralympic and Organising Committee experience."
