£20m scheme proposed for Havant RFC
A scheme detailing the construction of a new rugby stadium and creation of a new Esporta Raquets Academy has been unveiled by Havant Borough Council.
The Hampshire local authority is planning to build a £20m centre of excellence, in partnership with Havant Rugby Football Club (HRFC) and health club operator, Esporta, in the Campdown area.
The move would allow HRFC to relocate to a stadium with a 500-capacity stand, a new clubhouse, and ancilliary facilities.
HRFC chair, Debbie Morgan, said: “The proposal would safeguard the future of the club and allow it to maintain the provision of rugby to over 360 juniors.”
Council leader, David Gillett, added: “A variety of new facilities at Campdown would benefit the whole borough.”
A resident consultation programme will now be carried out, and subject to a positive response, planning applications could be submitted early next year, to start work in 2007.
