24 Hour Fitness to open club at ‘wellness-minded mall’ in Texas
US-based fitness operator 24 Hour Fitness will open a club at a mixed-use development in Katy, Texas next month.
The club will be located at the Shops at Katy Reserve retail and entertainment development, which markets itself as a “fitness and lifestyle-minded shopping mall”.
Situated in the middle of a high-end residential project called Firethorne, the 40-acre mall boasts 17,000sq ft (1,600sq m) of park-like green spaces and a number of healthy-option restaurants.
Due to launch on 3 December, the new 37,000sq ft (3,400sq m) 24 Hour Fitness club features an open-floor plan and houses a large gym suite with cv, strength and functional training stations and a free weights area.
There is also an indoor swimming pool, spa pool, steamroom and sauna and a number of exercise studios offering indoor cycling and Group X classes, as well as pilates and barre.
The club’s signature area is the Turf Zone – specialised sports conditioning and fitness equipment designed both for athletes and non-athletes.
“Firethorne residents place high-value on community and fitness in their daily lives and we are thrilled to offer both at our new club,” said Brent Hanson, general manager if 24 Hour Fitness. “The club is just one part of leading a healthy lifestyle. Our talented fitness professionals provide the inspiration and tools that will help members achieve their fitness goals both inside and outside of our club.”
Headquartered in California, 24 Hour Fitness currently has nearly 4 million members and 400 clubs across the US.
One of the country’s largest fitness chains, it was acquired by a group of North American investors – including AEA Investors, Fitness Capital Partners, Global Leisure Partners and the Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan – for US$1.9bn (€1.4bn, £1.3bn) in 2015.
