Physical Company has been part of my life as long as I can recall and I have thoroughly enjoyed helping to steer its course and support its growth
– John Halls, Physical Company MD

Physical Company, a specialist equipment supplier based in the UK, has celebrated its thirtieth anniversary.

A family business, the company was founded by Penny Halls in 1989 and is now run by her three sons: John, Jason and Nick Halls, with John helming the company as the managing director, Jason as the director of Finance and Administration and Nick as warehouse director.

John told HCM : "Physical Company has been part of my life as long as I can recall and I have thoroughly enjoyed helping to steer its course and support its growth."

To commemorate the milestone anniversary the company has launched a new brochure and undergone a rebrand, to create a 'strong modern feel' for the brand. The new-look features a bold new typeface and the removal of the word 'company' from the branding. The company has also dropped the icon from its products, for a sleeker, more polished aesthetic.

The company has also simplified its mission statement, in response to the company's growth. John Halls, Physical Company MD, told HCM: "Because this started out as a family business, it was small enough for everyone to understand the culture and the mission. However as the company grew, we needed to formalise this, but our mission statement wordy, long-winded and hard to remember. Now it's easy: we are First for Fitness Solutions."

Headquartered in 30,000sq ft (2800 sq m) of office, warehouse and showroom space in Buckinghamshire, with room for expansion, the company offers a wide range of equipment including functional training, strength and conditioning and functional training equipment, as well as flooring, which, according to Halls, is currently a key trend in the fitness industry.

"One of the big trends at the moment is flooring," he said. "We're delivering many elaborate floor installations including features such as branding, patterns and programming prompts, all of which we are embedding during the manufacturing process."

As for future trends, Halls believes that the market will continue to be polarised with budget and boutique offerings at the opposite ends of the spectrum. He also believes that more and more people will adopt active lifestyles, thanks to the growth of flexible and at-home training options.

"I believe more people will start to exercise, however their choice as to where they do this has further increased with some good quality home training options now available," he said.

"I believe there will be a rise in home training, possibly with the introduction of augmented reality products, so people can put on glasses and see an instructor in their room."
