£4.5 refurbishment nears completion at Sandcastle Waterworld
Blackpool Sandcastle Waterworld is currently undergoing phase two of its £4.5m (US$7.9m, 6.6m euro) refurbishment.
Eight different building contractors are working on the redevelopment to get it completed for the opening on 8 April 2006.
The biggest investment in phase two of the redevelopment is the installation of a 250m (820ft)-rollercoaster waterslide named The Masterblaster. This ride together with The Sidewinder forms the new Hyperzone area.
Phase one of the redevelopment was completed in May 2004 and launched the £1m (US$1.7m, 1.4m euro) Caribbean Storm.
Chair, Cllr. Robert Wynne, said: “This project has been four years in the making. It’s been fun – but also a tremendously difficult task. We’ve worked hard to come up with the rides and features.”
