ACE investment for Doncaster arts venue
A new performance venue to be developed as part of Doncaster's new Civic and Cultural Quarter (CCQ) is to receive £2.1m of National Lottery funding.
Doncaster Council has confirmed a funding agreement with Arts Council England (ACE), which will also see £92,000 provided in 2011-12 to help develop the venue's programme. Cynthia Ransome, cabinet member for neighbourhoods and regulatory/customer services, said: "This contribution by Arts Council England to the delivery of the new performance venue is a huge vote of confidence in Doncaster."
ACE regional director Cluny Macpherson added: "The state-of-the-art venue will help make Doncaster an even more vibrant and exciting place to live and visit, ensuring more people's lives are enriched and inspired by arts experiences." Located at the heart of the multi-million pound CCQ development, the venue will house a 600-seat main auditorium and a second 200-seat/400-standing space.
Dance and drama studios; educational facilities; a bar and café area; and a foyer are also proposed as part of the scheme. Construction work is due to begin in summer 2011.
