ANA open first boutique-style hotel in Tokyo
Luxury hotel operator All Nippon Airways (ANA) has opened its first boutique-style hotel in Tokyo, designed by London-based, GA Design.
The ANA Shinagawa hotel occupies 15,452sq m of space and the reception is located on the 26th floor of the new Intercity tower development – near to Tokyo’s second bullet train terminal. From the reception, the hotel structure rises six floors to a glass-enclosed peak on the 32nd floor.
With 200 guestrooms and two restaurants, the construction cost of the hotel was paid for by the building’s owner, with ANA covering additional costs of around 400m yen.
Aiming at “a more individual and design-conscious clientele”, the GA Design team combined the idea of European-style boutique hotels with individual interior design.
General manager of GA Design, Terry McGinnity, said: “Leading Japanese hotels tend to be very large and with a rather general appeal. The ANA Shinagawa is considerably larger than typical European boutique hotels but the point is its interior design focus.
“The intimate interiors, aimed at appealing to a younger guest profile, are far more akin to the leading boutique hotels of the world than to most Japanese hotels.” Details: www.ga-design.co.uk
